Whether you're...

  • a burned-out, exhausted professional seeking purpose, or

…I can help. I work extensively with those experiencing psychological trauma, helping transform emotional distress using evidence-based approaches including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems, Brainspotting - and many more.

Here’s what some people are saying:

"Elisa is an amazing therapist who uses IFS and other theoretical orientations to help people find calm, self-confidence and relief from their inner critics!" (N.H., 5-star Google review)

"She's able to creatively and effectively combine multiple proven therapy modalities to really customize her clients' experiences and growth." (E.G.)

My online therapy practice may not be a good fit for you if you're seeking couples, child or family therapy, as my focus is on individual healing through specialized therapeutic approaches that address traumatic memories, promote healthy coping skills and offer real healing. However, if you are actively considering suicide or experiencing a severe mental health crisis, seeking local, in-person support is recommended.

If you'd like to break free from past traumas, heal your self-esteem and learn how to navigate life's challenges with more ease...check out the following trauma therapists to find an EMDR therapist who offers support to those in San Francisco, the Bay Area and beyond. In addition to EMDR therapy, they are skilled in other therapies designed for healing trauma and fostering the natural healing processes needed to restore emotional health and relieve severe emotional pain.

1. Elisa Martínez, LMFT (she/her/ella)

As a trauma survivor, I've known how it feels to struggle with anxiety, depression and the distressing memories related to past traumas. Trauma inflicts an emotional wound that can reverberate throughout your life, resulting in self-doubt, low self-esteem and a disconnection from the well-being we all long for. My own traumatic experiences and unfolding healing process is what motivated me to become a trauma therapy psychotherapist. I am highly attuned to those battling the disturbing feelings of post traumatic stress disorder and intense suffering of anxiety, self-criticism and emotional overwhelm. As a neuroscience-informed IFS and EMDR therapist providing individual psychotherapy for adults in San Francisco and beyond, my mission is to help people experience transformative healing through effective treatment that addresses the mental, emotional and biological mechanisms involved in trauma, unlike talk therapy alone.

Both the World Health Organization and American Psychiatric Association recognize Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR therapy) as an effective approach for trauma. The EMDR therapeutic process uses bilateral stimulation (back-and-forth eye movements or alternating audio/touch) and incorporates self-soothing techniques to "re-process" disturbing memories related to a traumatic event(s). The rapid eye movement (or bilateral touch/sound) helps "re-program" the way a traumatic memory is stored in the brain, which can lead to much emotional relief!

As an anxiety, trauma and "inner critic" specialist, I'm able to use EMDR therapy and an array of other highly-effective modalities to help you find the calm, confidence and clarity that have felt out of reach for too long. Whether it's healing the deeper emotional wounds that spring from trauma and distressing experiences, or building a user-friendly arsenal of tools to help you find relief and ease in the day to day...I got you! Reach out and let's see if I might be the right-fit therapist for you.
